My experience at Drupalcamp 2019
Hello everyone once again! As it could not be missed, I am going to talk about my experience in my first attendance and (surely) not the last at Drupalcamp 2019 :)
I have been working with PHP, Drupal 8 and Symfony for 1 year and 3 months. It is a considerable amount of time in which I have continuously trained, moving things forward, meeting new and cool people, and of course visiting stackoverflow and drupal.org to the point of simulating a DDoS attack from my laptop. But in my time as a Drupal developer I couldn't miss attending my first Drupalcamp, since I couldn't attend the previous one due to economic issues and the location (Alicante), among other things.
What is Drupalcamp?
Drupalcamp is a networking event and conferences related to Drupal as the protagonist that is held in Spain every year in a different location, thus uniting the Drupal community wherever you are from to talk about current CMS topics and exchange ideas, experiences. , news, geeks... It usually lasts about a week, but the main conferences and activities are held during the weekend (although it usually varies depending on the circumstances). Attending requires paying for a ticket, which will cost you much cheaper if you buy it in advance of the start of the event, so it is important to anticipate!
My experience at Drupalcamp 2019
As some of you already know, this year's Drupalcamp was in Conil de la Frontera (CΓ‘diz) and the good weather, fried fish and of course, the blue color of Drupal (and the beach) were the protagonists. The event was held the week of May 6-12, with the main conferences and activities being on the 10th and 11th, Friday and Saturday respectively. The talks began at 9:30 a.m. and ended around 5:30 p.m., accompanied by a group photo (Friday 1:30 p.m.) and lunches on both days together with the drupal community. Obviously we couldn't miss the drupal parties , which were held at ~10:00 p.m. and ended at ~ 404 Not Found surrounded by drupalers and good music at 'Chsss'.
The talks talked about current Drupal, resources, tips, solutions, decouplings and other technologies related to the CMS. They could take place in the Balidea Room (La Chanca) or the 1xINTERNET Room (Casa de la Cultura). As can be seen in the calendar , each speaker discussed their respective topic and this was indicated on the calendar according to its difficulty or language. As there were two separate rooms, about a 5-minute walk away, where two completely different talks were given, it could mean that you had to move from one to the other, arriving a little late for the talk.
What I liked most was the surroundings. People who do what you do, with open source thinking, from different locations but with whom you could talk about almost anything. There has been a very good vibe and perhaps the location this year (Conil) has helped a lot, in addition to other factors such as the weather, the great participation of the Drupal community and a very good organization. I can only say that I am looking forward to next year to attend Drupalcamp 2020 again , which will surely come loaded with more and better!
